I love winter. I love the snow, the cold weather, getting bundled up and having snowball fights with neighborhood kids. But, I think I love Spring even more.
In the Spring new life begins for our planet. Flowers bloom, trees produce leaves, grass turns green once again and the weather warms up to a nice comforting feel (not scorching like the Summer). It becomes the perfect time to talk a walk with your family in the park, have a picnic by the river or go fishing on a lazy Saturday.
But, then Summer comes and becomes hot and miserable. The sun beats down on you giving all levels of sun-burns. It seems that the only way to beat the heat is to stay in doors. And at the hottest moment of the Summer; we begin to long for the winter.
It’s kind of funny how this resembles what life is like as a Christian. Winter is a lot like what our life looks like before we come to know Christ. Its cold, lonely, dark and silent. But, the moment we believe in Christ and accept him as our saviour, it becomes Spring. Our heart begins to flutter with life. We feel things growing inside and bust open with excitement to tell others.
Then, there’s the summer of our lives where things begin to heat up and become unbearable. We start running into financial issues. We lose our jobs. We lose a spouse or a friend. We start to forget about the life that was born in us during the Spring and we begin to long for colder months before all this happened.
But you know what? God provides a way out. Here comes the Fall. The weather gets crisp, leaves change color and fall, fires in the fireplace replace A/C and harvest festivals break out. The relief is there. All we had to do was persevere through the summer months.
It’s funny how life is reflected in the seasons. I think it’s God’s way of reminding us that he has a plan, he’s in control and he will always provide a way out of the mess. Isn’t God good?
