Dancing, the immortal BAPTIST sin!

Posted by Brad Bates

People, I have to take a moment and rant about something so ridiculous that it bothers the crap out of me. Are you ready? Here it is:

What is with us Southern Baptist people who are OFFENDED by the word, or the action or even the suggestion of DANCING!!??? I understand not being too fond of the crude dancing (I'm not big on that myself), but dancing in general is not bad. I bet, if we examined each person in the SBC, I bet at some point or even currently they would dance with their wife or husband, or go to a wedding where there might be dancing and yet we've lost it out of our worship because as the wise and all knowing deacons tell us "It has no place in the House of God!"

OH NO!!! We've committed the ultimate sin.

Seriously folks, grow up.

Dancing litters the scripture. People dancing in joy. People dancing in worship. People dancing to be dancing. Kings dancing. Commoners dancing. Priests dancing. The list goes on. In fact the Psalms tell us to praise God in dance. But yet, we Baptist's have outlawed it in our congregations.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! I see you wanting to dance. SINNER!

Good grief people. Grow up!!! The only ones who will be offended by that are legalists and people who seem to forget that scripture is littered with the idea of dancing.

When did this happen anyways? Who was the first CHURCH person, Pharisee, who said "Thou Shalt Not Dance, Thus sayeth the Holy whatever"? Ridiculous people. We have people dying and going to hell and all we're concerned about are the top 4 sins (at least our minds they seem to be) of: SEX, DRUGS, ALCOHOL and DANCING!

All the while we have fat gluttons pouring in to our pews who are long standing churchies who destroy the local buffet immediately following church; and yet nothing is said to them. Why? Oh, that's not a sin. That's people enjoying the blessings God has given them. Um...NO! The bible clearly states that gluttony is a sin. It also tells us that sin is all the same in God's eyes. We're told that because "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".

So, here's my suggestion. DANCE people! Dance to the glory of the Lord. Dance as David did. Dance with out a care in the world. Dance in the street. Dance in your house. Dance in the CHURCH building! Dance with your spouse. Dance with your children. Let go people!

JUST DANCE! You know you want to!
